Dr. Sasmit Patra is the Founder & Managing Partner of Lex Gladius. A leading lawyer in the country with expertise spanning constitutional law, commercial and corporate disputes, arbitration, mining, electricity, and governance-related litigation, he brings to the firm a rare mix of courtroom experience and strategic insight. Over the years, he has appeared before the Supreme Court of India, multiple High Courts, and a wide range of national tribunals, representing clients in matters involving constitutional law, commercial disputes, company law, arbitration, electricity law, mining regulation, and service jurisprudence.  His practice covers both high-stakes litigation and advisory work, enabling clients to navigate complex legal, regulatory, and policy challenges with confidence. Over the years, he has built a profile that bridges legal advocacy, public policy, and institutional reform, enabling him to guide the firm with both technical precision and strategic foresight.

He is empanelled with the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC), where he represents litigants as an Advocate, and continues to undertake pro bono work to ensure access to justice for marginalized and underprivileged communities.

In addition to his legal practice, Dr. Patra has brought his expertise to the national stage as a two-time Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament representing Odisha. In Parliament, he has served as the Chief Whip of the Biju Janata Dal, is a member of the Vice-Chairmen Panel of the Rajya Sabha, and has actively contributed to key committees on law, justice, personnel, and ethics. These roles sharpen his ability to understand the interplay between law-making, governance, and judicial oversight, an edge that shapes the counsel Lex Gladius delivers.

Dr. Patra is also an academic by training, holding a Ph.D. in Business Management, MBA, and B.A. LL.B. He has taught at leading institutions such as XLRI Delhi and XIM University, Bhubaneswar, and continues to engage with legal and policy discourse as a speaker and author. His academic grounding and legislative exposure enrich his legal approach, allowing him to anticipate challenges that arise at the intersection of law and governance.
